There are many jobs out there that involve helping people. Being an EMT means helping people when the need it most. Usually when someone calls 911 and requests medical assistance it is for an emergency. When the call goes out the adrenalin starts pumping. Your training kicks in and you automatically start helping.

If you have the passion to become an EMT, where do you start? Seek out programs that are in your area. Contact the local Fire/Rescue department and inquire about classes. Many times the local department will host a class that you can register for.

Many local colleges or technical schools may also offer an EMT class. There is a lot to learn and a lot of material that needs to be studied. You will first become an EMT Basic which requires passing the EMT basic test.

The hardest part will be preparing for the EMT tests. You can take as many courses as you want but until you actually pass your EMT exam, you won’t be an EMT. Depending on the state you live in you may only get a certain number of tries to take the test.
